In a growing organization you need to ensure that the software you purchase now will be able to meet your needs a year from now. NOW is the time to ensure that you select labeling software that serves your company's needs today, and far into the future.
Before investing in a labeling software it is important to understand your application.
Assessing Labeling Software Requirements
When assessing your labeling needs, make sure you gather all mission-critical information. Involve key users, employees, partners, management and vendors to thoroughly understand their requirements.
Prioritize the features that you identify, noting the ones that are absolutely necessary. Include the following questions in your assessment:
How many different label formats do I have? Do I need to place different label formats on the same page, or do I need to print multi-page labels?
Who will be using the label software? Will the same people be designing, editing and printing labels? Do the people reviewing the label need to share comments with label designers?
Do I need multiple label design stations or multiple label printing stations? If not, will I need this in the future?
What labeling and/or barcode specifications do I have to meet (government, suppliers, etc.)?
What types of graphics do I want to place on the labels? Are the graphics that appear on a label variable depending on the product?
Do I need to include time/date/serial number fields? Do they have to be in any specific format? Do they need to have a prefix or suffix? Or, do they have to be merged with other information?
What information do I want to tap into from our company's databases? In what software package(s) is the information stored?
Do I want to control label printing features through a file, or do I want it to be controlled by an operator?
What hardware do I have available for this application (computers, operating systems and printers)? Do I want to purchase new equipment?
